Dice and dice games goes back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is approximately 100 years old. Current craps developed from the 12th Century Anglo game referred to as Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the beginnings of the game, although Hazard is said to have been invented by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, around the twelfth century. It’s presumed that Sir William’s knights enjoyed Hazard amid a blockade on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was derived from the fortification’s name.
Early French colonists imported the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 18th century, when expelled by the British, the French moved down south and found refuge in southern Louisiana where they after a while became known as Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they took their favorite game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it mathematically fair. It’s believed that the Cajuns changed the title to craps, which is gotten from the name of the bad luck toss of two in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi riverboats and all over the country. A great many think the dice maker John H. Winn as the founder of modern craps. In 1907, Winn assembled the modern craps layout. He appended the Do not Pass line so gamblers can bet on the dice to lose. At another time, he established the boxes for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
